About the Order The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilization. The 13,500 Knights and Dames remain true to its principles – nurturing, witnessing and protecting the faith and serving the poor and the sick.
The American Association Founded in 1927 as the first association of the Order of Malta in the Americas, the association is headquartered in New York City with over 2,000 Knights, Dames and volunteers in over 30 Areas working with the poor, sick, and incarcerated and giving witness to the Catholic faith.
Spirituality Knights and Dames join the Order of Malta to pursue their spiritual growth over a path laid out by Blessed Gerard more than nine hundred years ago, seeking to nurture and witness the Faith and assist the sick and the poor.
Spirituality in Action Members are involved in hands-on work at over 100 hundred organizations, including food banks, hospitals, pregnancy support centers, homeless shelters and mentoring programs for at risk children.

Volunteer with Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens
We are pleased to announce that there are several new volunteer opportunities weekdays and Saturdays with Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens. Please read to the bottom of this announcement for the new Saturday volunteer opportunities. 55 Pierrepont St., Brooklyn, NY, 11201 Volunteers are needed who are willing to help with the 55 Pierrepont St. Resource Center on Monday and Thursday each week. CCBQ will have a consumer choice food pantry along with the thrift store. Volunteers are needed from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (select your hours) on those two days. The volunteers will assist in keeping the pantry stocked and assisting the clients so they can move along. The 55 Pierrepont St. Resource Center will also have a kitchen that volunteers can use to make hot meals for the community in need. If CCBQ has a team of volunteers, they will gladly purchase the food needed to make prepared meals for CCBQ clients who live in shelters. It would be helpful, but not required, if volunteers can speak French, Spanish, Arabic or Chinese as well as English. 191 Joralemon St., Brooklyn, NY 11201 Volunteers are needed Tuesday and Wednesday between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM (select your hours) to pack food, toiletries, and clothing for distribution to migrants. Also the volunteers can interact with the migrants and provide them with the food, toiletries, and clothing. Ability to speak Spanish, Creole or French would be very helpful, but not required. Malta Walks
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me… Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:35-40 We would like to invite volunteers to meet at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Parish House, 14 E. 51st Street, New York City (please come to the Rectory Door on Madison Ave. near 51st St.). We will make sandwiches and add them to bags which will include winter hats, gloves and socks. We will then head out in small groups to distribute the bags to the homeless. White Cross Ball
The White Cross Ball of New York City raises funds for three of the Order’s global humanitarian efforts. The Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem is a charity maternity and neonatal hospital providing the highest level of obstetric and newborn care in the Bethlehem region of the West Bank regardless of religion, race, or ability to pay. Malteser International provides humanitarian relief around the world. Malta Camp USA is a five-day camp for disabled adults from across America. The White Cross Ball has in the past supported the Order of Malta International Summer Camp for Disabled Youth, which hosts 200 disabled young people and 300 volunteers from 30 nations in a different European host country every summer.
